Novel D-pi-D-type boradiazaindacene dyes exhibit considerable two-photon absorption cross-section and strong red emission. Cell stained with these dyes show bright intracellular fluorescence. These properties qualify them as competitive candidates for fluorescent bioimaging applications (C) 2009 Published by Elsevier Ltd.
