An efficient and straightforward procedure for the synthesis of 12-aryl-8,9,10,12-tetrahydrobenzo[alpha]xanthen-11-ones has been achieved by three-component cyclocondensation of aldehyde, beta-naphthol, and dimedone under solvent-free conditions.
