[image omitted] An efficient and environmentally friendly synthesis of 6-amino-5-cyano-1,4-dihydropyridine derivatives was developed by the one-pot reaction of ethyl acetoacetate, [(2-aryl)methylene]malononitriles, and ammonium acetate at room temperature with grinding. The key advantages are the short reaction times, good yields, simple workup, and easy purification. The present method does not involve any hazardous solvent.
