Ketones and aldehydes undergo facile hydroperoxidation on treatment with aqueous hydrogen peroxide (30%) in the presence of 10 mol% stannous chloride dihydrate in acetonitrile tinder very mild conditions to afford the corresponding gem-dihydroperoxides in satisfactory yields.
