Efficient ring-opening of various epoxides with hydrogen peroxide, catalyzed by antimony trichloride/SiO2, afforded the corresponding beta-hydroperoxy alcohols in good to excellent yields under mild reaction conditions. The reactions were efficiently promoted by ultrasound irradiation.
