Two new copper(II) complexes, [Cu2(L1)3(NCS)]center dot CH3CN (1) and [Cu2Br2(L2)2(1,1-N3)2] (2), where L1 and L2 are 2-(1-iminoethyl)phenolate and 4-(2-pyridyl)-2,2:6,2-terpyridine, respectively, were synthesized. The characterization of the newly formed compounds was done by elemental analysis, IR spectra, molar electric conductibility, and single-crystal X-ray determination. The Cu1 atom in 1 is in a square planar coordination. The Cu2 atom in 1 is in a trigonal bipyramidal coordination. The Cu atom in 2 is in an octahedral coordination. The ligands and the two complexes have been evaluated for their antibacterial activity against four gram-positive bacteria, Stereptococcus pyogenes, Stereptococcus agalactiae, Staphylococcus aureus, and Bacillus anthracis, and two gram-negative bacteria, Klebsiella pneumonia, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
