The regioselective and stereoselective synthesis of glycosidic bonds still remains one of the most challenging areas within organic synthesis. Despite the broad use of organocatalysis within asymmetric synthesis, its application towards oligosaccharide synthesis is still in its infancy. This article highlights some recent examples of organocatalysts being used for regio- and stereoselective glycosylations and looks towards the future of the area.
