A new metal-organic framework, [Cd(TDC)(bix)(H2O)](n) (H2TDC = thiophene-2,5-dicarboxylic acid; bix = 1,4-bis(imidazol-1-ylmethyl)benzene), has been synthesized under hydrothermal conditions and structurally characterized by elemental analysis, infrared spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis, UV-vis and single X-ray diffraction. Cd-MOF is a 2D infinite layer framework, which is further interconnected by hydrogen-bond interactions leading to a 3D supramolecular architecture. The photoluminescent properties of the Cd-MOF were investigated and this compound shows intense fluorescent emissions in the solid state. In addition, it exhibits good photocatalytic activities for the degradation of methyl organic under UV light irradiation. (C) 2013 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
