Based on the modified Heisenberg model and using a Green's function technique we have studied the influence of size, shape and composition effects on the Curie temperature T-C of ferromagnetic nanoparticles. We have discussed various possibilities which could lead to decreasing of T-C in order to find possible low-T-C particles suitable for use in magnetic hyperthermia treatments. (C) 2009 Elsevier Ltd.
