A designed peptide amphiphile C-16-KKFFVLK self-assembles into nanotubes and helical ribbons in aqueous solution at room temperature. A remarkable unwinding transition, leading to twisted tapes, is observed on heating. Nanotubes and ribbons re-form on cooling.
