Three new chemosensors 1-3 were prepared, and their chromogenic and fluorogenic behaviors toward various anions were investigated. Among them, receptor 1 shows exclusive response toward pyrophosphate ion and also distinguishes pyrophosphate from other anions by different color and fluorescent changes in CH3CN/DMSO/H2O (85/10/5, v/v/v) solution. Thus, the receptor 1 can be used as a colorimetric and fluorescent chemosensor for the determination of pyrophosphate ion. The use of test strip of the receptor 1 to detect pyrophosphate was also reported. (c) 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
