As a novel charged carrier for copper(II), a new calboxylated thiacrown ether, 2-(3,6,10,13-tetrathiacyclotetra-dec-1-oxy)hexanoic acid (TTCT-OHA) was developed. The Cu2+-selective plasticized polyvinyl chloride (PVC) membrane electrode using TTCT-OHA without anionic additive, exhibits reversible potential responses with an almost Nernstian slope for Cu2+ ions in the concentration ranges from 1.0 x 10(-7) to 1.0 x 10(-3) M for 2 months; with a 90% response time (t(90%)) of 6 s and the limit of detection (LOD) of 6.3 x 10(-8) M. The electrode was effectively performed in the pH range 5.3-7.2. The good results were obtained by applying the potentiometric titration of Cu2+ ions. Preliminary application of FET checker was also carried out. (C) 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
