Lipoxygenase and physiological quality of soybean seeds during storage

The purpose of this study was to assess the influence of lipoxygenase and linolenic acid content on soybean seed quality. The following genotypes were used: LOX-Lin- (absence of lipoxygenase and low linolenic acid content); LOX+Lin+ (lipoxygenase presence and normal linolenic acid content); LOX-Lin+ (lipoxygenase absence and normal linolenic acid content); LOX+Lin- (lipoxygenase presence and low linolenic acid content). The seeds were harvested at the stages R8, R8+15 days and R8+30 days, and were evaluated by germination, accelerated aging and electrical conductivity after 0, 2, 4 and 6 months of storage. Seed deterioration in these genotypes was more influenced by the linolenic acid content than the presence of lipoxygenase. The seed quality of the genotype containing lipoxygenase and with normal linolenic acid content was the worst.
