The optimization of Ti-6Al-4V structures for impact loading events requires understanding of the effects of macrozones (or micro-texture) on the high strain rate behavior of Ti-6Al-4V. In this paper, electron backscatter diffraction analysis of the pre- and post-deformation microstructures from a Taylor impact specimen shows that macrozones have a significant effect on the activation of deformation twins in Ti-6Al-4V at very high strain rates.
