The role of deformed < 110 >/RD orientations for the nucleation of the {311} < 136 > component observed in recrystallization textures of ferrite steels is investigated. For the purpose of characterizing the plastic behaviour of < 1 1 0 >//RD grains, a 60% cross-rolled IF steel was examined by high-resolution orientation scanning microscopy. The minute but relevant amounts of crystallite volume that rotated towards the {311} < 136 > component in the deformed (1 1 0)//RD grains revealed the occurrence of a fragmentation process that produced locally potent nucleation sites of recrystallization.
