Torsion extrusion was carried out on a commercial magnesium alloy. The torsion-extruded specimen tends to produce texture highly inclined (30 degrees) to the extrusion direction, and the annealed torsion-extruded specimen shows abnormal grain growth. The room temperature ductility is significantly enhanced by the torsion extrusion because of these textural and microstructural modifications, which are attributed to an enhancement of the Schmid factor for both basal slip and twinning.
