The development of Ru-catalyzed asymmetric transfer hydrogenation of alpha-amino beta-keto ester hydrochlorides is described. The reaction proceeds through dynamic kinetic resolution to afford anti beta-hydroxy alpha-amino esters with good diastereomeric ratios and high enantioselectivities.
