Ionic, proton, and oxygen conductivities are measured as functions of air humidity (pH(2)O = 0.04-3.57 kPa) in the BaZr1 - x Y (x) O3 - alpha system (x = 0.02-0.15) over the temperature range 600-900A degrees C. The important result is obtained that dissolved water vapor determines not only proton transport, but also the overwhelming part of oxygen transport in BaZr1 - x Y (x) O3 - alpha.
