This work considers the fundamental problems in the design of lithium-sulfur batteries (LSBs): low practical specific energy, rapid decrease in capacity during cycling, and high self-discharge rates. We demon-strate that these problems will be solved by the provision of an optimum combination of the rates of electrode and corrosion processes in lithium-sulfur batteries during cycling.
