An efficient one-step synthesis of 2-indolylalkylamines was proposed. The synthesis involves the Fischer reaction of phenylhydrazine with cyclic imines containing a CH2 group in the alpha-position or with amino ketones containing two CH2 groups in the alpha-position with respect to the C=O group.
