This work was carried out at the Floresta Nacional de Paraopeba - FLONA, in the municipality of Paraopeba, Minas Gerais State, Brazil, located at 19 degrees 16 ' 19 '' S and 44 degrees 24 ' 06 '' W, to study the floristic composition of the tree stratum of a forest formation (cerradao), and to evaluate the similarity with other floristic surveys conducted in cerradoes of Minas Gerais and Sao Paulo. There have been found 78 species belonging to 66 genera representing 31 families. The most representative families in relation to number of species were Fabaceae-Leguminosae (22), Myrtaceae (10) and Vochysiaceae (3). Floristically the cerradoes is closer to the forest formations than to cerrado and formally they could be classified as a subtype of those forest formations, because 83% of the species are accessory and just 17% peculiar.
