We report a method for preparing chemically stable catecholamine coatings on solid substrates. The catecholamine, norepinephrine, was used as a surface modification reagent, forming a coating of poly(norepinephrine) under alkaline conditions. The stability of the polymer layer was enhanced by using a post-oxidation treatment, and the resulting surface showed superior stability in the presence of a strong acid or a harsh organic solvent.
