Three heteronuclear Cu(II)/Na(I) complexes, [Cu-2(salen)(2)Na(ClO4)(CH3CN)] (1) [Cu-2(vanen)(2)Na-2 (mu(1,1)-NCS)(2)] (2) and [(Cu)(2)(L)(2)(Na)(2)(mu(1,1)-CH3CN)(H2O)(ClO4)]ClO4 (3), where H(2)salen = N,N'-ethylenebis(salicylideneimine) and H(2)vanen =N,N'-(1,2-ethylene)-bis(3-methoxysalicylideneimine), have been prepared and characterized by elemental analyses, IR and UV-Vis spectroscopy and single crystal X-ray diffraction studies. Two Cu(II)-salen units are connected by an Na ion in complex 1. Two Cu(II)-vanen-Na(I) moieties are connected by bridging thiocyanate groups in complex 2. A novel end-on bridging asymmetric acetonitrile is observed in complex 3. (c) 2012 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
