Five homoleptic silver-bis(pyridine) coordination polymers, [Ag(L-1)2]center dot(FF6) (1), [Ag(L-1)(2))]center dot(SbF6) (2), [Ag(L-1)2]center dot(BF4) (3), [Ag(L-2)]center dot(PF6) (4), and [Ag(L-3)(1.5)]center dot(CF3SO3)center dot(H2O)(2) (5.(H2O)(2)), were prepared from AgX (X = PF6, SbF6, BF4, CF3SO3) and rigid bis(pyridine)-type linking ligands (L-1 = (4-py)-CH=N-C10H6-N=CH-(4-py); L-2 = (2-py)-CH=N-C10H6-N=CH-(2-py); L-3 = (3-py)-CH=N-C14H12-N=CH-(3-py)). Polymers 1-3 are isostructural and have the same non-interpenetrated, 3-D diamondoid framework, whose cavities are almost completely filled with the counterions. Polymer 4 is a 1-D chain polymer. Polymer 5 (H2O)2 is a 2-D alpha-arsenic-type polymer with a repeat unit of a 114-membered ring. (C) 2010 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
