Coupled CdSe/TiO2 photocatalysts with various amounts of CdSe were prepared with a facile and reliable hydrothermal method. The optimal amount of CdSe in coupled photocatalysts was found to be 20%, which was more than twice as high as that of the photodegradation efficiencies than other tested CdSe/TiO2 coupled samples, and over eight times than that of pure TiO2 without CdSe couplings. Investigations of photocatalytic activity under various illumination wavelengths and recycling capability have been conducted. The results explicitly demonstrated the robust and reliable photocatalytic capability of the coupled CdSe/TiO2, with excellent degradation efficiencies on azo dye.
