Stone-Wales defect in a single-walled carbon nanotube has been investigated theoretically by a fully discrete dislocation equation. It is found that Stone-Wales defect as a fundamental structure can be obtained from the basic dislocation equation, which is used to determine the structure of the dislocations. In addition, there are two possible equilibrium configurations for the Stone-Wales defect. (C) 2011 Published by Elsevier B.V.
