The photoluminescent properties of allylamine terminated silicon nanocrystals (Si-NCs) are investigated. Chloride surface terminated Si-NCs of different sizes react with allylamine yielding NCs that exhibit size independent blue luminescent NCs. NCs were characterized using X-ray diffraction, Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy, photoluminescence spectroscopy, and dynamic light scattering. Reaction scheme summarizing surface modification approach used for the present study.
