Two Cu-II supramolecular coordination complexes, namely [Cu(L-233)(SCN)(2)] (n) and [Cu(L-233)(N-3)(2)](2) (L-233 = 3-(2-pyridyl)-4,5-bis(3-pyridyl)-1,2,4-triazole), have been synthesized by the reactions of L-233 with Cu(OAc)(2) in the presence of NH4SCN or NaN3. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the complex [Cu(L-233)(SCN)(2)] (n) possesses a 1D zigzag chain, while [Cu(L-233)(N-3)(2)](2) shows a binuclear coordination pattern. In both structures, the coordination motifs are further extended to form different supramolecular architectures with the aid of secondary interactions. The structural distinction between these compounds can be ascribed to the directing effect of the ancillary pseudohalide ligands. In addition, the thermal stabilities of both complexes are described and discussed.
