The electrogenerated chemiluminescence (ECL) of monodispersed Au-144(SC2H4Ph)(60) is reported for the first time. Near-infrared ECL of the clusters with a peak wavelength of 930 nin was observed with tri-n-propylamine as the coreactant. On the basis of the energetics and spooling photoluminescence spectroscopy of the various charged species produced via in situ preparative electrolysis, the ECL is consistent with emission from the electrogenerated excited states Au144(4+)* and Au-144(5+)*.
