A synthetic approach to highly functionalized cyclopentanes that incorporate adjacent secondary and tertiary alcohols is described. These systems, prepared in one step by a ketyl radical cyclization of beta-disubstituted acrylates, represent the core of the marine prostanoid family of natural products.
