In the paper, the apparent violation of the first law of thermodynamics in operating three-flow vortex tubes (3VTs) with mixed stratified flows is discussed when the refrigerating capacity of the 3VTs is higher than with throttling. The authors explain this phenomenon by the dissipation of the kinetic energy of the gas into the ambient medium due to the vibroacoustic component of the vortex effect.
