We have investigated the tunability of waveguide modes in a 2D square lattice photonic crystal composed of circular alumina rods in air background in which one row of the rods is replaced by copper oxide high temperature superconductor rods. Variations of defect mode frequencies versus physical parameters are investigated by employing revised plane wave expansion method which is suitable technique for frequency-dependent permittivity such as superconductor materials. Our results show that the sensitivity of waveguide frequencies on the defect size is remarkably different from those modes appear in line defects composed by dielectric materials.
