Using only two gold strips, we propose a scheme for generation of the plasmonic analogue of electromagnetically-induced transparency (EIT) in stacked optical metamaterials by utilizing the second-order plasmon resonance. In addition, we show that the plasmonic EIT can be achieved with asymmetric structure, since the asymmetric structure allows the excitation of the dark mode. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V.
