This work reports a study of the vibrational properties of kesterite Cu2ZnSnS4 (CZTS) single crystals by using polarization-dependent Raman scattering measurements. The CZTS crystals with several mirror-like planes were grown by chemical vapor transport technique using iodine trichloride as a transport agent. The detailed analysis of the experimental spectra and comparison with the results of recent theoretical calculations, have allowed us to determine the wavenumber and symmetry assignment of the observed Raman-active modes of CZTS. The results may be used to clarify the existence of structural or phase inhomogeneities in CZTS absorber film of the solar cells. (c) 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
