We proposed a new structure of highly nonlinear low-dispersion photonic crystal fiber with high birefringence for four-wave mixing. Its dispersion and nonlinear coefficient are investigated simultaneously by using the full-vector finite element method with anisotropic perfectly matched layers. Numerical results show that the dispersion variation is within +/- 0.7 ps km(-1) nm(-1) in the C band, and the corresponding nonlinear coefficient and birefringence are about 60.5 W-1 km(-1) and 4.92 x 10(-3) at 1.55 mu m, respectively. The proposed PCF with low dispersion, high nonlinearity, and high birefringence can have important application in four-wave mixing. (C) 2012 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.
