Bismuth(III) bromide is an efficient catalyst for the one-pot multicomponent synthesis of polyhydroquinolines via the Hantzsch reaction. The mild reaction conditions, short reaction times, high yields, and the remarkably low toxicity of bismuth compounds make this method especially attractive. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd.
