Thiol-ene and thiol-yne addition reactions can be included inside the category of click chemistry reactions and have attracted considerable interest in polymer and dendrimer chemistry. An efficient and facile approach to introduce thiol functionalities at the surface of carbosilane dendrimers is presented as a new way for the preparation of a well-defined dendritic multivalent platform, potentially useful for the attachment of different molecules of biological interest, through the binding of these molecules to the thiol functionalities of these dendritic systems. An example of this potential application is shown involving the participation of these terminal thiol units in thiol addition reactions with anionic olefin derivatives. (C) 2015 Elsevier Ltd.
