With a bidentate Schiff base ligand 2-hydroxy-5-methoxybenzaldehyde oxime (HL) and copper acetate, a polynuclear copper(II) complex was prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, and X-ray structure determination. The complex crystallizes in the orthorhombic space group Pbca with unit cell dimensions a = 7.5094(7) angstrom, b = 6.5131(7) angstrom, c = 33.081(3) angstrom, V = 1618.0(3) angstrom(3), Z = 4, R-1 = 0.0628, and wR(2) = 0.1194. Single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the Cu atom is coordinated by two imino N, two phenolate O, and two oxime O atoms from two Schiff base ligands, in an octahedral coordination. Catalytic oxidation of the complex on some olefins was performed.
