During a survey of the mycobiota from western region of the State of Parana, south Brazil, a new striking species of the genus Morganella was found. Morganella sulcatostoma is diagnosed by the presence of a conspicuous sulcate peristome, the prominent echinate exoperidium, reduced small size of the basidiomata and palmicolous habitat. Morphological similar species are discussed and compared, and a key for those species of Morganella with a distinct spiny exoperidium is presented.
