Oncopodium eldeagni, a new hyphomycete from Hungary

Oncopodium elaeagni sp. nov. is described and illustrated from the bark of Elaeagnus angustifolia collected in Hungary and from pure Culture. This species has been collected exclusively from its host, on which it was common (in 85% of the total collections). The fungus has black, granular, shining sporodochia with caespitose, straight or flexuous, hyaline conidiophores and acrogenous, hemispherical or limoniform, brown, smooth, muriform conidia bearing 2-4 short, hyaline horns. It was present permanently on an Elaeagnus tree between 2003 and 2008 where the fun-us sporulated mostly from March to July. The fungus is dispersed by stemflow rainwater; an average of 13 spores/ml was detected in rainwater samples. Some conidial forms were common in culture but rare in bark samples.
