At present the Federal Republic of Germany is in a process of a society becoming older and older and this so-called demographic change has far-reaching consequences for the emergency medical services as an integral component of the health service. In spite of decreasing population up to 2050 the number of emergency medical alarms calls will rise by 25%, which corresponds to an increase of 56% when normalized to the population. Connected with this are clear changes in the number of clinical pictures found by the emergency doctor according to which the clinical picture cardiovascular will rise in future by nearly 50%, while the clinical pictures respiration, metabolism and CNS will increase by about 33%. In comparison the clinical picturespediatrics andgynecology will be reduced by about 25% and that of intoxication by about 20%.
