MnOx-CeO2/La-Al2O3 catalysts prepared by the deposition-precipitation method, impregnation method and a combination of the two methods were investigated for toluene oxidation. The results showed that the MnOx-CeO2/La-Al2O3 catalyst prepared by the deposition-precipitation method showed the best catalytic activity by achieving the complete conversion of toluene at 300 degrees C with a GHSV of 12000 h(-1). N-2 adsorption-desorption, XRD, SEM-EDX, H-2-TPR, O-2-TPD, Toluene-TPD and XPS were employed for catalyst characterization. The characterization results revealed that the MnOx-CeO2/La-Al2O3 catalyst prepared by the deposition-precipitation method had richer surface oxygen species, a higher proportion of Mn4+ and good low-temperature redox properties, which resulted in a superior catalytic activity toward complete oxidation of toluene.
