Tetraphenylethene-based Zn complexes with cis and trans configuration (Z-TPEDPAZn and E-TPEDPAZn) were prepared for phosphate derivatives detection. We demonstrated that the two isomers may bind anions with different modes and affinity that resulted in different fluorescent response. The cis complex showed higher selectivity than its trans isomer in detecting triphosphate (PPPi) over the other phosphate derivatives, including pyrophosphate (PPi) and adenosine triphosphate (ATP).
