Hygrocybe griseobrunnea, a new species in Hygrocybe subsect. Squamulosae, is described and illustrated based on the morphological characters and molecular data. The fungus is characterized by numerous greyish brown to brown or dark brown squamules on the pileus surface, adnate to shortly decurrent lamellae, and a trichodermal pileipellis.
