Hydnochaete asetosa is described here as a new species from tropical China. It is distinguished from all other species by the absence of hymenial setae and the presence of clavate cystidia and oblong ellipsoid basidiospores. An annotated identification key is provided for the ten species thus far accepted in Hydnochaete.
