Hydrogenolysis of 3-nitrobenzeneseleninic acid and 3-bromo-4-nitrobenzeneseleninic acid under standard conditions (Pd/C, H-2 1 atm in MeOH) gave exclusively the corresponding azo-compounds. Nitration of the azo-compounds with HNO3 in H2SO4 at 0 A degrees C yielded solely 3-nitrobenzeneseleninic acid and 3-bromo-4-nitrobenzeneseleninic acid in return.
