Heat shock proteins (Hsps) of the HSP60 and HSP70 family are highly conserved and essential to all living organisms Hsps are immunodominant in numerous microbial infections and have been investigated for their vaccine potential We investigated the immunogenicity and protective efficacy of GroEL and DnaK of B anthracis in murine model Both Hsps were found to be highly immunogenic with mixed antibody response (both IgG1 and IgG2a) indicating stimulation of both humoral and cell-mediated immunity Cytokine profile also confirmed robust T-cell response with increase in lymphocyte proliferation Immunization with GroEL conferred 100% protection to mice against B anthracis infection whereas DnaK couldn t provide protection (C) 2010 Published by Elsevier Ltd
