In this article a wideband multilayer multipermittivity (MLMP) half-split cylindrical dielectric resonator antenna (CDRA) fed through coaxial probe is proposed and developed. The idea of multilayers of different permittivity is introduced in half-split dielectric resonator antenna for getting wide bandwidth. A parametric study is performed to optimize the antenna performance. The proposed MLMP half-split CDRA is excited with TM21d (0 < d < 1) mode. The proposed wideband MLMP half-split CDRA provides measured percentage input impedance bandwidth of 63.7% which covers the frequency range of 4.056.9 GHz. The simulated and measured radiation patterns are consistent throughout the operational bandwidth. The average measured gain over the band is 5.79 dB. (c) 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.
