An enzymatic glucose biosensor was developed that is making use of microspheres consisting of an m-aminophenol based resin decorated with silver nanoparticles (AgNP/MAPR). It was applied to the detection of H2O2 and, if loaded with glucose oxidase (GOx), to the determination of glucose. The AgNPs were thermally immobilized on the MAPR microspheres. The AgNP/MAPR microspheres were deposited on a glassy carbon electrode (GCE) by surface casting. The resultant electrode exhibits remarkable catalytic performance in terms of H2O2 reduction. The sensor gives an amperometric response to H2O2 within < 3 s and has a linear response in the 0.1 mM to 0.18 M concentration range (r = 0.997). The detection limit is 2.7 mu M at an SNR of 3. The glucose biosensor has a linear response in the 2 to 12 mM range and a detection limit of similar to 0.1 mM. The biosensor was applied to the determination of glucose in human blood serum.
