Mesoporous SiO2 was synthesized and used for modification of the surface of a carbon paste electrode (CPE). In pH 8.0 phosphate buffer, an irreversible oxidation peak at 0.38 V is observed for hesperidin. Compared to the unmodified CPE, the modified CPE remarkably increases the oxidation signal of hesperidin. The effects of pH value, amount of mesoporous SiO2 and accumulation time were examined. As a result, a sensitive and convenient electroanalytical method was developed for hesperidin. Its linear range is from 0.5 to 25 mu M, and the limit of detection is 0.25 mu M. The method was applied to determine hesperidin in several traditional Chinese medicines.
